The Metropolitan Opera in New York announced today that due to the Covid-19 pandemic it cancels its entire 2020-21 season. The plan is currently to reopen the Met in September 2021.
The 3,800-seat opera house is closed since mid-March, with a loss of more than $150 million in revenue. Around 1,000 full-time employees, including orchestra and chorus, are furloughed without pay since April.
