The now abandoned project of Cité de la Musique, Geneva
There will be no Cité de la Musique in Geneva, Switzerland. Its supporters said on Wednesday that they were throwing in the towel for good. After a defeat in the public vote, the project had been modified, but without succeeding in removing the resistance to it.
« It is clear that this new vision of the Cité de la Musique project at Les Feuillantines does not meet with sufficient support, » wrote the Foundation for the Cité de la Musique de Genève (FCMG), the Orchestre de la Suisse romande (OSR) and the Geneva Music School in a press release.
Like the Cité de la Musique in Paris, gathering a Philharmonic hall and a Conervatpry, the center was to combine concert halls and educational spaces. 50,86% of the Genevans voted against in June.
