The Boise Philharmonic (Boise is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Idaho)is using the 2016-17 season to select a new Music Director after Robert Franz left the orchestra in April. No less than seven candidates are trying to get the job: Knoxville (Tenn.) Symphony Music Director Aram Demirjian, Detroit Symphony Orchestra Assistant Conductor Michelle Merrill, Cincinnati Symphony Associate Conductor Keitaro Harada, freelance conductor Alastair Willis, Signature Symphony Music Director and Pittsburgh Symphony Assistant Conductor Andrés Franco, Oklahoma City College Director of Orchestral Studies Eric Garcia and Alexander Micklethwate, 46. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, he is an American citizen and currently is the music director for Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Manitoba, Canada.
