At its General Assembly in Wexford on 30 October, the Board of Opera Europa elected as its new President Eva Kleinitz, Opera Director and Deputy Intendant of ‘Oper Stuttgart’. ‘Opera Europa’ is the leading professional association for opera companies and festivals, representing 135 companies from 36 different countries. Eva Kleinitz succeeds Peter de Caluwe, General Director of La Monnaie/De Munt Brussels, who retired on completion of his term.
Eva Kleinitz becomes the sixth President during the twelve years of Opera Europa’s existence. Her predecessors were Francesco Ernani, Anthony Freud, Bernard Foccroulle, Joan Matabosch and Peter de Caluwe. She is thus its first female and first German President.
