French Opéra national du Rhin, a company staging opera and ballet in Strasbourg, Colmar and Mulhouse, has cancelled some performances of the current season due to a difficult financial situation. The institution sees it operating cost rise and the public funding decrease.
Two performances of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tale of the Czar Saltane, scheduled for May in Mulhouse, will be replaced by a single performance in concertante form. The staged version of this opera, co-produced by La Monnaie (Brussels) and the Teatro Real in Madrid, was « not sustainable » for the Alsatian institution.
