In Placido Domingo’s Operalia Competition 2018, which took place in Lisbon, 1st Prizes were awarded to Canadian-Italian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo, 23, and to Belarusian tenor Pavel Petrov, 27. Samantha Hankey, mezzo-soprano, USA, 26, and Migran Agadzhanyan, tenor, Russia, 26, won 2nd Prize, while 3rd Prize was awarded to Rihab Chaieb, mezzo-soprano, Canada, 31, and Arseny Yakovlev, tenor, Russia, 26.
Emily D’Angelo also won the Audience Award, The Pepita Embil Prize of Zarzuela and the Birgit Nilsson Prize, the latter jointly with Samantha Hankey.
The Don Placido Domingo Ferrer Prize of Zarzuela was awarded to Pavel Petrov, and to Luis Gomes, tenor, Portugal, 31 who also won the Audience Award for male singers.
