Die Barockoper Antiochus und Stratonica des Komponisten Christoph Graupner (1683-1760) hat auch noch den Titel ‘L’Amore Ammalato. Die kranckende Liebe’. Krank insofern, als es hier um die Liebe des Seleukiden-Prinzen Antiochus zu seiner Stiefmutter Stratonica geht. Parallel will Mirtenia sich ihren Demetrius angeln. Die Fäden in der komplizierten Handlung zieht der Diener Negrodorus. Das sorgt für Drama und Verwirrungen, aber am Ende wird alles gut.

Die opulente Oper wird in diesem Set vom Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra und 10 exzellenten Solisten aufgeführt. Zu nennen sind dabei insbesondere Sunhae Im als kämpferische Mirtenia, Aaron Sheehan als Demetrius, Christian Immler, der mit seiner Bariton-Stimme die Rolle des Antiochus einfühlsam gestaltet, die virtuos singende Hanna Blazikova und der ohne zu überziehen stilvoll singende Jan Kobow als Negrodarus.

Exzellente Leistungen kommen vom Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, das von Paul O’Dette und Stephen Stubbs zu einem vitalen Musizieren inspiriert wird. Das Orchesterspiel ist transparent und macht die raffinierte Orchestrierung des Komponisten deutlich.

Der Chor ist solistisch mit Manja Stephan, Nina Böhlke, Benjamin Kirchner und Alexander Schumann besetzt und wird seiner Aufgabe bestens gerecht.

Christoph Graupner’s baroque opera Antiochus and Stratonica also has the title ‘L’Amore Ammalato. The sick love’. Sick insofar as it is about the love of the Seleucid prince Antiochus for his stepmother Stratonica. At the same time Mirtenia wants to get her Demetrius. The servant Negrodorus pulls the strings in this complicated plot. This causes drama and confusion, but in the end everything turns out well.
This opulent opera is performed in this set by the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra and 10 excellent soloists. Particularly worthy of mention are Sunhae Im as the pugnacious Mirtenia, Aaaron Sheehan as Demetrius, Christian Immler, who with his baritone voice sensitively portrays the role of Antiochus, the virtuoso Hanna Blazikova and the stylishly singing Jan Kobow as Negrodarus.
Excellent, vivid performances come from the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, which is inspired by Paul O’Dette and Stephen Stubbs. The orchestral playing is transparent and reveals very well the composer’s refined orchestration.
The choir has just four singers, Manja Stephan, Nina Böhlke, Benjamin Kirchner and Alexander Schumann and is perfectly suited to its task.
