The Geneva based Orchestre de la Suisse Romande announced that 45-year-old Brit Daniel Harding was named Conductor in Residence. This is a new position within the orchestra that will allow the musicians of the OSR and Daniel Harding to collaborate on various exceptional projects for a fixed period of time, the news release says.
Harding will assume the position for the seasons 2021-22 and 2022-23. The collaboration between the conductor and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande began in September 2020, when he was hired to work with the orchestra on a short-term basis and with great success! This week, Daniel Harding is recording two discs with the OSR, including violin concertos by Sibelius and Barber with violinist Renaud Capuçon.
Among future projects, Harding and the OSR will programme literary works set to music (W. Shakespeare – J.W. von Goethe), record audio-visual productions in parallel with his concerts and give programmes outside Switzerland as part of the OSR’s international outreach.
OSR’s Music Director is also a Brit, Jonathan Nott.
In 2019 Daniel Harding had announced his intention to take a sabbatical from conducting to be a commercial pilot with Air France, plans now delayed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
