The Community of Madrid has appointed Alondra de la Parra as the new Artistic Director of the regional Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid , replacing Marzena Diakun.
Born in New York in 1980, De la Parra began learning piano at the age of seven and cello at 13. She studied composition at the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicales in Mexico City, and at the age of 19 she entered the Manhattan School of Music as a scholarship student, graduating with a degree in piano and a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting.
In 2016 she assumed the position of Music Director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, a position she held until the end of 2019. In April 2022 she was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano.
