Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari hat fünfzehn Opern komponiert. Die erfolgreichsten waren I Gioielli della Madonna und auch seine Buffo-Opern. Einen guten Eindruck davon liefern die Ouvertüren und Intermezzi, die auf dieser CD zu hören sind.
Friedrich Haider gilt seit 2003 als Wiederentdecker und unermüdlicher Propagandist der Werke Ermanno Wolf-Ferraris. Ihm war in einem Londoner Antiquariat zufällig eine Partitur von Wolf-Ferraris opera buffa Il segreto di Susanna (Susannens Geheimnis) in die Hände gefallen, und er fühlte sich von dieser Musik “wie vom Blitz getroffen”. Er führte die Oper 2003 auf, und damit setzte sein bis heute unvermindertes Engagement für die Musik Wolf-Ferraris ein, von dem er bereits etliche Werke aufgenommen hat.
Friedrich Haider lässt das Oviedo Filarmonia einfühlsam und vital, elegant und schwungvoll musizieren und bringt die meist warmherzigen Stimmungen der Musik Wolf-Ferraris sehr gut zum Ausdruck.
Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari composed fifteen operas. The most successful were I Gioielli della Madonna and also his Buffo operas. A good impression of these works is provided by the overtures and intermezzi heard on this CD.
Friedrich Haider has been considered a rediscoverer and tireless propagandist of Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari’s works since 2003. By chance, a score of Wolf-Ferrari’s opera buffa Il segreto di Susanna (Susanna’s Secret) had fallen into his hands in a London antiquarian bookshop, and he felt « struck by lightning » by this music. He performed the opera in 2003, and this marked the beginning of his never diminishing commitment to Wolf-Ferrari’s music, of which he has already recorded a great deal.
Friedrich Haider has the Oviedo Filarmonia play with sensitivity and vitality, elegance and verve, and expresses the mostly warm-hearted moods of Wolf-Ferrari’s music very well.
