Paavo Järvi (54) has been named music director of the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich from 2018 on. He will succeed Lionel Bringuier who is to conclude his tenure at the end of his first contract, at the end of the 2017-2018 season. Bringuier’s tenure is considered as having been highly unsuccessful.
Paavo Järvi is chief conductor of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremenas well as of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Previously he has been in Cincinnati (2001-2011), Frankfurt (2006-2013) and Paris (2010-2016).
