Paris National Opera has invited all French towns to show opera and ballet films for free to their citizens on an open air screen. The town councils have the choice between Carmen or Aida, respectively Don Quichotte or Sleeping Beauty. Participating towns get the digital media free of charge and rights but have to cover all technical cost for the screening which must take place during the summer months.

The Australian Internet site ‘7 news’ has revealed that Shane O’Riley, a Perth-based building designer, has plans to build the ‘Perth International Concert Hall’ on Elizabeth Quay riverfront in Perth (Australia). The projected cost – $1.2 billion – has many doubting it will ever be built, but Mr O’Riley said he’s « resilient and prepared to work long and hard to realize the building ». For the moment it looks like he has no support from politicians.

San Diego Opera announced that survival campaign launched last Friday had brought in $328,475 until yesterday, nearly a third of the $1 million they want to raise until May 19. Opera officials say the money is vital to planning the 2015 season.

Die ‘Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin’ wird für ihre Verdienste um die Aufführungspraxis des 18. Jahrhunderts mit der Bach-Medaille der Stadt Leipzig ausgezeichnet. Die aus Meißner Porzellan gefertigte Medaille wird seit 2003 jährlich während des Bachfestes Leipzig verliehen. Three radio stations being members in the ICMA Jury will broadcast the Gala Concert from Warsaw, recorded by the Polish Radio at the Philharmonic Hall on the 12th of April. German radio MDR Figaro has planned a ‘Figaro Spezial’ about ICMA 2014 on the 2d of May, from 18.05 – 19.00, presented by Martin Hoffmeister. The Gala Concert will follow from 20.05 – 22.00. Russian Radio Orpheus will broadcast the concert on the 19th of May and Luxembourg’s Public Radio 100,7 does it on the 5th of June, from 20:00-22.00.
Monserrat Caballé
Die 81-jährige Opernsängerin Montserrat Caballé ist in die Fänge der spanischen Justiz geraten. Es wurden gegen sie Ermittlungen wegen des Verdachts der Steuerhinterziehung aufgenommen. Die Staatsanwaltschaft in Barcelona behauptet, sie habe das Finanzamt im Jahr 2010 um rund 500.000 Euro betrogen. Die Sopranistin wurde für den 9. Mai zu einer Vernehmung vorgeladen. Die Staatsanwaltschaft wirft Caballé vor, im Jahr 2010 Andorra als Wohnsitz angegeben zu haben. Tatsächlich aber habe sie in dieser Zeit ihren festen Wohnsitz in Barcelona gehabt und sei dort steuerpflichtig gewesen.
Teatro alla Scala, Milano
Alexander Pereiras dubiose Aktion, eigenen Produktionen aus Salzburg an sein zukünftiges Haus, die Mailänder Scala zu verkaufen, ist in Mailand zum Politikum geworden. Der Aufsichtsrat der Scala hat jetzt die Präsentation der ersten Pereira-Saison, die für 15. Mai angekündigt war, auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben. In der nächsten Sitzung des Aufsichtsrats am 5. Mai soll über die Zukunft Pereiras entschieden werden.
