Audiences for orchestras in the UK have grown by 16% since 2010 with over 4.5m people now attending an orchestral concert every year, according to a report by the Association of British Orchestras. Nonetheless, in spite of the positive growth in attendance, the income for British orchestras has fallen by 11% over the same time period. The ABO has put this decrease down to audiences plumping for cheaper ticket options in times of financial austerity. Nachdem die Polizei in Milwaukee gestern im Zusammenhang mit dem Raub der Stradivari des Konzertmeisters vom ‘Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’ drei Verdächtige festnehmen konnte, wurde die Geige heute morgen (Ortszeit) wiedergefunden. Letzten Meldungen zufolge wurde das Instrument eindeutig als die gestohlene Lipinski-Stradivari identifiziert.

The New York Philharmonic has opened its digital archives to the worldwide Internet audience. Old documents and photos are available for consulting online. Thanks to a $2.4 million grant from the Leon Levy Foundation, the orchestra is digitizing elements from its copious archives back to its inaugural 1842-43 season.

Laut einer Meldung von ‘El Pais’ ist der britische Dirigent Ivor Bolton Favorit für den Posten des Chefdirigenten am ‘Teatro Real’ in Madrid. Das soll der neue künstlerische Leiter Joan Matabosch gesagt haben. Bolton (*1958) war von 1992 bis 1997 Musikdirektor der ‘Glyndebourne Touring Opera’, von 1994 bis 1996 Chefdirigent des ‘Scottish Chamber Orchestra’ und seit  Herbst 2004 ist er Chefdirigent des Mozarteum-Orchesters Salzburg.

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft of the ‘Lipinski’ Stradivarius violin in Milwaukee. But the search for the priceless instrument continues, MPD Chief Edward Flynn announced Wednesday. The missing Strad, stolen from Milwaukee Symphony’s concertmaster Frank Almond has been given an insurance value of $5 million.

British Conductor Leo Hussain (*1978) has been named Principal Conductor at the opera of Rouen (France). His contract is to run from September 2014 through August 2017.
