With Antonio Salieri’s opera ‘Prima la musica e poi le parole’ Germany based ‘Bärenreiter-Verlag’ has begun a new kind of edition project. ‘Opera – Spectrum of European Music Theatre in Single Editions’ is dedicated to critical editions of outstanding works from the 17^th  to the 20^th  centuries. Each of the planned 21 volumes of music includes a data carrier containing the libretto, the sources and the complete score. Ein Gericht in Girona hat die Pianistin Laia Martin von der Anklage durch Üben ihre Nachbarin mit Lärm belästigt und psychisch geschädigt zu haben freigesprochen. Eine übereifrige Staatsanwältin hatte zunächst 7 Jahre und am Ende ‘nur’ 20 Monate Gefängnis gefordert und sich damit in Presseberichten vor der Weltöffentlichkeit lächerlich gemacht.

Paul Dujardin (Belgium) was yesterday elected President of the International Music Council for a renewable mandate of two years. He replaces Frans de Ruiter from the Netherlands, who had served as president of the organisation since October 2009. Mr. Dujardin is CEO and artistic director of the Centre for Fine Arts (BOZAR) in Brussels.

Taiwanese pianist Chen Han won first prize in the 6^th China International Piano Competition in Xiamen. Chen Han is 21 years old and a junior at ‘The Juilliard School’ with Professor Yoheved Kaplinsky. He also studies composition with Professor Philip Lasser. Nachdem das Personal der finanziell angeschlagenen Römischen Oper wegen Sparmassnahmen in Streik getreten war, willigten die Gewerkschaften heute ein, die für morgen Mittwoch, 27. November vorgesehene Premiere und die nachfolgenden Aufführungen von Verdis Oper ‘Ernani’ unter der Leitung von Riccardo Muti durchzuführen. Mutis Argumente sind offenbar auf fruchtbaren Boden gefallen.

Nachdem die Musikergewerkschaft DOV gestern den Bühnenverein bezichtigte, den Tarifkompromiss platzen gelassen zu haben, reagierte dieser heute scharf. Die Behauptung der Musikergewerkschaft DOV, sie habe sich mit dem Bühnenverein auf eine Nachzahlung von bis zu zwei Monatsgehältern für die seit 2010 ausgebliebenen Lohnerhöhungen verständigt, entbehre jeder Grundlage. Italian conductor Angelo Campori (*1934) has died at the age of 79. Though relatively unknown in foreign countries, he was well known in Italy for his close connection with ‘Teatro Regio’ in Parma and with the Verona Arena. Fabio Luisi tweeted about Campori’s death: « Maestro Campori was one of the last Italian conductors who knew exactly what Italian opera means and how to conduct it, supporting the singers, understanding the big picture of an opera, feeling the true intentions of the composers. »

Weil ihn das Husten im Publikum des ‘Chicago Symphony Orchestra’ zu sehr störte, eilte Dirigent Tilson Thomas hinter die Bühne, holte Hustenbonbons, verteilte sie anschließend an die Zuhörer der ersten Reihen und bat sie Bonbons an die weiterzugeben, die sie benötigten. Das Publikum reagierte mit Applaus.

The oldest Holocaust survivor and the oldest active pianist in the world, Alice Sommer-Herz turns 110 today. Alice Herz and her twin sister Mariana were born in Prague in the 26^th of November 1903. Alice studied the piano and at 18 she was already performing in recitals and as soloist in concerts with the Czech Philharmonic. The critics wrote excitedly about the young pianist. Read More →
