Bayreuth, Festspielhaus

Katharina Wagner und Eva Wagner-Pasquier sollen die Bayreuther Festspiele über 2015 hinaus leiten. Das berichtete der ‘Nordbayerische Kurier’. Verwaltungsratschef Toni Schmid bestätigte, Verhandlungen mit den Wagner-Schwestern über deren Vertragsverlängerung als Geschäftsführerinnen begonnen zu haben. Die beiden Intendantinnen sind seit 2008 im Amt.

James Levine

James Levine is conducting tonight his first performance at the Metropolitan Opera since he injured his spine more than two years ago. He will conduct Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte from the wheelchair. A special ramp and an automatic elevator have been built in the orchestra pit to allow Levine access with the wheelchair. This Cosi Fan Tutte is the 2,443^rd  performance at the Met, conducted by the now 70 years old Maestro.

Metropolitan Opera New York

Mit Deborah Warners und Fiona Shaws Inszenierung von Peter Tchaikovskys Kammeroper ‘Eugen Onegin’ eröffnet die ‘Metropolitan Opera’ ihre Saison. Anna Netrebko, Mariusz Kwiecień und Piotr Beczała sind in den Hauptrollen zu erleben, am Pult steht der russische Dirigent Valery Gergiev. Über die Kritik an der Präsenz von Putin-Supportern in einem Werk des homosexuellen Komponisten hat sich die Oper hinweggesetzt.

Heute Abend um 19 Uhr spielen 23 spanische Symphonieorchester -zusammen sind es ungefähr 1000 Musiker – ein gemeinsames Protestkonzert auf einem zentralen Platz in ihrer Ortschaft. « Am selben Tag, zur selben Stunde, dasselbe Programm » verkündet das Plakat, mit dem für die 23 gemeinsamen Konzerte geworben wird. Yao-Yu Wu

Der 24 Jahre alte Taiwanese Wu Yao-yu hat den Internationalen Dirigentenwettbewerb in Besançon gewonnen. In der Endrunde des Wettbewerbs siegte er vor dem Ungarn Huba Hollokoi, 32, und dem Deutschen Kiril Stankow, 30. Er überzeugte nicht nur die Jury unter dem Vorsitz des Besançon-Preisträgers von 1957, Gerd Albrecht, sondern holte sich auch den Publikumspreis und den Preis der Orchestermusiker des ‘Orchestre National de Lorraine’. Krzysztof Urbanski

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s music director Krzysztof Urbanski extends his contract through the 2017-18 season. The 31 years old Polish musician is also Chief Conductor and Artistic Leader of Trondheim Symfoniorkester and Principal Guest Conductor of The Toyko Symphony Orchestra. He holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Music (Orchestral Conducting) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has awarded pianist Krystian Zimerman with the Commander’s Cross – with star – of the Order of Poland Reborn. Komorowski described Zimerman as a « good ambassador of the beauty of Polish culture ». The pianist appeared to be deeply moved and said: “I should come here with flowers to thank you and the nation which has done so much for me,” adding that it came on the 50th anniversary of his first piano lesson with Professor Andrzej Jasinski, who was present at the ceremony. Locked out musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra are launching their own self-produced Fall Concert Series. The series, including educational enrichment programs, begins with two concerts on October 4th and 5th, at 8:00 PM Ted Mann Concert Hall of the University of Minneapolis. The concerts will feature piano soloist, Emanuel Ax, in a program to include Beethoven Concerto No. 3, Mozart Concerto No. 27, and Stravinsky’s Suite from The Firebird. Read More →
