Tonight the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform the world premiere of Kerry Turner’s Horn Concerto. The new work will be played at the Seligman Performing Arts Center by Karl Pituch, DSO’s Principal Horn and conducted by Music Director Leonard Slatkin. Ending his 12-year tenure, Hans Graf will conduct the Houston Symphony in his final concert as Music Director tonight, 18 May, with Mahler’s Second Symphony No. 2, Resurrection. Austrian conductor Hans Graf is the Houston Symphony’s 15th Music Director and is its longest serving music director. His successor from the season 2014/15 on will be Andres Orozco-Estrada. As Music Director Designate the Columbian conductor will already conduct several concerts during the next season, when the Houston Symphony will be in its 100th year.
