He won First prize in the Spanish Radio Competition in 1969 and has since sung at the Teatro del Liceu in his native city. Die Tonhalle Zürich berichtet im Geschäftsbericht für die Saison 2021/22 von einem großen Publikumserfolg nach dem Umzug in die restaurierte Tonhalle. Rund 100.000 Besucher wurden gezählt. Die Konzerte mit Paavo Järvi seien über 90 Prozent belegt gewesen. Mit Billett-Einnahmen von CHF 6.670.000, dem besten Ergebnis der letzten zehn Jahre, wurde das Budget deutlich übertroffen, heißt es im Bericht.
