Julian Jaeyoung Kim, a South Korea-born pianist will release a new Beethoven album on the HĂ€nssler Classic label, supported by Bechstein and BĂ€renreiter Verlag, set for release in March 2025. Also, he will be touring in Europe for two weeks in nine different cities with three Beethoven Sonatas. Remy Franck made the following interview with him.

As a Korean pianist, you have no roots in Europe. Yet, as so many Koreans you deal easily with European music. What do you have to pay attention to?
Regardless of the country or continent, musicians strive to explore and understand the composer’s intentions. We study works created over several centuries and seek answers through the composer’s lifetime, written sources, and scholarly approaches. The San Francisco Symphony has reached an agreement with its musicians to extend their current collective bargaining agreement by some weeks, through Jan. 18. This temporary extension comes as talks continue between the Symphony’s administration and Musicians Union Local 6 of the American Federation of Musicians, which represents the orchestra players. Both parties aim to finalize a new contract in the coming months.
