American conductor Joshua Weilerstein, has been announced as Chief Conductor of the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, starting with the 23/24 season for a three-year term. Weilerstein, 35, was the youngest ever winner of Denmark’s Malko Competition in 2009, and since then he has conducted widely across the globe and has forged close relationships with many of the world’s finest orchestras and soloists. Der seit 1990 verliehene und mit 10.000 Euro dotierte Duisburger Musikpreis geht in diesem Jahr an das Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Mit dem Preis soll die künstlerische ebenso wie die friedensstiftende Arbeit gewürdigt werden, « die das Jugendsinfonieorchester der Ukraine in den vergangenen fünf Jahren zu einem Klangkörper von weltweiter Ausstrahlung gemacht haben », heißt es in der Begründung.

Dirigent Christian Thielemann hat verletzungsbedingt Konzerte abgesagt. Die Sächsische Staatskapelle verwies am Dienstag auf langanhaltende Schulterbeschwerden seines Chefdirigenten. Mehrere Konzerte werden nun von anderen Dirigenten übernommen, so von Tugan Sokhiev und David Afkham. Auch die anschließenden Gastkonzerte in Luxemburg, München und Hamburg teilen sich beide Dirigenten. Als Solistin ist die Geigerin Julia Fischer mit dabei.

Der Orchesterausschuss des Deutschen Bühnenvereins hat in den letzten Wochen mit Unterstützung der ukrainischen Botschaft in Berlin ein Patenschaftsmodell für professionelle Orchester der Ukraine entwickelt, teilte die Organisation mit. The Italian tenor Daniele Barioni, an internationally renowned opera singer between the 1950s and 1970s, has died at the age of 92 during the night from Saturday to Sunday, Nov. 6. Daniele Barioni began studying singing in 1949 in Milan with Attilio Bordonali, his first studies were in the baritone repertoire. He made his singing debut that same year at Circolo Italia, Milan, in a concert with soprano Claudia Parada.
