The NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo has announced that Italian conductor Fabio Luisi, 62, will become its new chief conductor from September 2022. Luisi will enter a three-year contract with NHK’s orchestra from September next year. Prior to that, the orchestra plans to invite him to lead concerts in Japan from November this year.
