To cope with its financial crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Royal Opera House in London has sold a painting by David Hockney for 14.2 million euros. The painting auctioned at Christie’s depicts David Webster, former director of the opera house from 1945 to 1970, and dates from 1971.

Milan’s La Scala has decided to cancel ten events scheduled from now until 3 December due to the evolution of the Coronavirus epidemic. These are just some of the shows on the programme, including the four performances of Cinderella for children scheduled for November, three concerts conducted by Giovanni Antonini and two recitals with Sabine Devieilhe and Simon Keenlyside. The BBC Symphony Orchestra has announced the extension of Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo’s contract until the end of the BBC Proms season in 2023. The 54-year-old Finnish conductor is in this position since 2013, when he took over from Jiri Belohlavek. He is also Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor: of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Honorary Conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
