The Boise Philharmonic (Idaho/US) has extended Music Director Eric Garcia’s contract through the 2023-2024 season. Texas-born conductor Eric Garcia, 42, was named music director in Boise in 2017. Garcia graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, and earned his master’s degree in conducting from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

The Salzburg Festival opened on Saturday with a performance of a Richard Strauss opera, Elektra. The 100th edition of the festival has been scaled-down from an initial 200 to 100 performances due to the coronavirus pandemic and is taking place under strict hygiene regulations. Google has announced that they will remove all Danish music content on YouTube from August 1. Here is the background: Under the auspices of the Nordic alliance of collecting societies, Polaris, negotiations on a joint Nordic agreement on the use of music on YouTube are currently in full swing. The agreement will replace the local agreements of the Norwegian, Finnish and Danish composers and songwriters’ societies, combining them in a single, joint agreement with Google. In the case of Denmark’s Koda, the national agreement for Denmark expired in April, after which it was temporarily extended – as is standard practice in the industry while negotiating a new agreement.
