The Royal Opera House has concluded an investigation on Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo, 42, who allegedly groped a chorus member during the curtain call of a ROH performance of Goundo’s Faust in Tokyo in September 2019. As a conclusion from the investigation, the ROH issued a statement noting “Following an independent investigation into an incident involving Vittorio Grigolo in Tokyo in September, the ROH has concluded that his inappropriate behavior at the curtain call and afterwards fell below the standards we expect of our staff and performers.” Read More →

Die Stadt Wien will 2020 den Musikbereich spartenübergreifend mit rund 26,2 Mio. Euro fördern. Das sind 1,5 Mio mehr als 2019 und entspricht einer über sechsprozentigen Steigerung gegenüber dem Vorjahr, teilte die Stadt mit. Davon sollen in besonderem Maße die kleinen Orchester und Ensembles profitieren. Auch wird der Rahmen für einzelne Musikprojekte um 30 Prozent erhöht sowie in die Entwicklung von Stipendienprogrammen investiert.

The Opéra de Monte-Carlo has announced that Italian mezzo Cecilia Bartoli will succeed Jean-Louis Grinda in 2023 and become the first woman to lead this opera house. The New York Philharmonic and the Lincoln Center announced a complete renovation of Geffen Hall (ex-Avery Fischer Hall) at a cost of $550 million. In the hall the acoustics will be improved and around 67% of its third tier will be eliminated. The stage will come forward by nearly one meter to create seven rows of seating in the back of the orchestra. In total, the current seating capacity of 2.738 will be reduced by 500. Read More →
Two of the opera singers who blamed Placido Domingo for sexual misconduct have reacted to the Spaniard’s recent interviews in which he claimed he has always behaved like a gentleman and never acted improperly with women. According to the news agency AP which published the initial complaints, two of the more than 20 women who accused Domingo, Angela Turner Wilson and Patricia Wulf, issued a statement Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, saying they found Domingo’s comments and his « continued failure to take responsibility for wrongdoing » to be disappointing and deeply disturbing.
