After Jun Märkl cancelled concerts with the Belgrade Philharmonic over contractual issues, as reported by Pizzicato in an on-line article, the Belgrade Philharmonic issued an official statement, and subsequently its chief conductor, Gabriel Feltz, came forward, expressing his astonishment at the conductor’s reaction and his regret over Märkl’s failure to conduct the Belgrade Philharmonic. The Baltimore Symphony has announced that in the last month the BSO has secured $6 million in extraordinary operating gifts as well as a $1.25 million endowment gift. The news release says: « These gifts will enable the BSO to turn the corner towards sustainability. Unrestricted operating gifts will provide immediate cash flow and balance sheet relief as well as position us to embark on a robust, well-researched, multi-year plan that will reinvigorate our programs and establish new levels of engagement with our audiences, the community at large and the state of Maryland. »
