Online application for the next Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition is open, the organizer says in a press release, with the application deadline being fixed on Wednesday 4 December 2019. The first round will begin on 4 May 2020, the finals will take place from 25 to 30 May. Here are the rules. The organizer also says that its next competitions will be for cello in 2021, for voice in 2022, for violin in 2023 and again for piano in 2024.

British violinist Stephen Morris inadvertently left his 310-year-old violin, a David Tecchler from 1709, on a train. According to British media he was on the London to Orpington service on the 22nd of October, got out at Penge East with his bike, but forgot his violin worth almost € 300.000. He had been playing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The train company and the police are searching for the violin since a week now. Morris is the last one of a long list of musicians who forgot their instruments on a train or a bus.

Polish composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki, 85, canceled his participation at the 11th Seoul International Music Festival due to health concerns, the organizer said. One of Penderecki’s closest collaborators, Maciej Tworek filled in and led the KBS Symphony Orchestra for the Korean premiere of Penderecki’s St. Luke Passion. In September, Penderecki was already forced to cancel a concert at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest after having been hospitalized in the Romanian capital.
