Daniele Gatti, 57, has been appointed as Music Director of the Bologna-based Orchestra Mozart, which was conducted until his death by Claudio Abbado. The Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna announced that Gatti « will play the role of musical director in a large project that will see him engaged with the Orchestra Mozart already now for the next three years. The first concert is scheduled for Easter 2020 ». Gatti is also Music Director of the Opera in Rome.

Der französische Dirigent Nicolas Krüger hat seinen Vertrag als Chefdirigent des Leipziger Symphonieorchesters vorzeitig aufgelöst. Das meldete die Leipziger Volkszeitung. Krüger will angeblich internationalen Engagement-Angeboten folgen. Er war nicht einmal eine ganze Saison lang in seinem Amt.

Christopher Dragon

Casper-based Wyoming Symphony Orchestra has announced Australian conductor Christopher Dragon, 29, as music director. Dragon is in his third season as the Associate Conductor of the Colorado Symphony and continues his position as Principal Guest Conductor with the Denver Young Artists Orchestra.

Die Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele gehen morgen, an 25. Mai zu Ende. Rund 22.000 Besucher erlebten in den vergangenen vier Wochen in 59 Veranstaltungen ein vielfältiges Programm unter dem Motto ‘Neuland’. Die Auslastung bei den kostenpflichtigen Veranstaltungen erreichte 93 Prozent. Nach drei erfolgreichen Festspieljahren wurde der Vertrag der Künstlerischen Leiterin Heike Hoffmann bis 2024 verlängert, teilten die Festspiele mit.

Anlässlich eines Konzerts in Herrenhausen hat Gidon Kremer angekündigt, seine Karriere beenden zu wollen. Das berichtet die Hannoversche Allgemeine. Der 72-jährige Geiger sagte in einer Gesprächsrunde, er werde wohl nur noch rund 100 Konzerte spielen.

The Philharmonia Orchestra in London announced the appointment of Santtu-Matias Rouvali as its next Principal Conductor, only the sixth person to hold the title in its 75-year history. Following in the footsteps of Riccardo Muti, appointed as the Principal Conductor of the Philharmonia in 1973 at 32, 33-year-old Rouvali is one of the youngest-ever artists appointed as Principal Conductor of a London orchestra. Rouvali will take up the position for the 2021/22 season. His five-year contract with the Philharmonia will see him working with the Orchestra for 10 weeks a year.
