According to a news release of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, Laurent Petitgirard, its Lifetime Secretary, will end his contract as Music Director of the Paris based Orchestre Colonne this year already. The contract was signed for two more years, until 2020. Petitgirard who is at the helm of this French orchestra since 2004, wants to devote himself to composition and guest conducting.
Not officially confirmed news that the upcoming renovation of the Auditorium of Oviedo could lead to the complete closure of the building are worrying the concert organizers of the Spanish city. They believe their annual series could be heavily be affected. The building hosts some of the most important musical cycles of the city, including the season of the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias. Possible alternatives in other spaces have not yet been presented.
Hungarian conductor Gabor Kali, 35, has won Hong Kong’s first International Conducting Competition. Kali scored the highest mark from an international jury headed by Yip Wing-sie, Music Director of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and Christoph Poppen, its principal guest conductor.
