American conductor Dennis Russell Davies, 73, will take over the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra from the next concert season. The musician said: «  »I am proud of the fact that the Philharmonia Brno has offered me to become her artistic leader and chief conductor. I was very happy to accept this offer. The conductor comes from Bruckner’s orchestra in Linz, Austria, where he was music director for fifteen years.

Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, 82, has been announced as one of three winners of the 2017 Ratzinger Prize awarded by the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation. The Ratzinger Prize was established in 2010 and first awarded in 2011. In celebration of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra’s 60th anniversary, the GSO launched its opening program of the 2017/18 season last Sunday (24/9) with the world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Symphony No. 6 (Chinese Poems), featuring baritone Chen-Ye Yuan. This Symphony No. 6, co-commissioned by the GSO and the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, is inspired by Chinese literary culture, with German translations of Tang Dynasty poetry. The sold-out season-opening celebratory program at the Xinghai Concert Hall was led by GSO Music Director Long Yu.
