Der 1950 in New Orleans geborene, aber eng mit Florida verbundene Komponist John D. Gottsch ist als naturliebender Mensch bekannt, was sich auch in seinem musikalischen Schaffen bemerkbar macht. So ist seine symphonische Dichtung Sunset eine musikalische Reflektion über Key West und die Anfälligkeit der Gegend für den Klimawandel. Die 1846 in Sankt-Petersburg geborene und 1926 in Bonn verstorbene Elisabeth Schultz wurde als Komponistin und Pianistin unter ihrem Pseudonym Ella Adaiewsky bekannt. Sie bekam Unterricht u. a. von Franz Liszt in Weimar und von Anton Rubinstein in St. Petersburg. Das Bartholdy Quartett hat sich bei dieser Aufnahme der beiden Quintette von Mendelssohn auf dessen ursprüngliche, im Autograph erhaltene Fassung basiert, die also im Original und ohne Kürzungen erklingen.
