Teatro alla Scala, Milano
Fourteen minutes of applause welcomed Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in its original version which opened the season of the Teatro alla Scala yesterday evening in Milan. There were a rain of flowers from the gallery, an ovation for Chailly and the soprano Maria Jose Siri, warm applause to all the company of singers and applause also for the stage director Alvis Hermanis.

Vor Beginn der Saisonpremiere der Mailänder Scala ist es am gestrigen Mittwochabend zu einer Kundgebung einer linksradikalen Bewegung gekommen, die für Sozialwohnungen und Beschäftigung protestierte. Die Randalierer versuchten eine Polizeisperre zu durchbrechen und sich der Scala zu nähern. Dabei warfen sie Rauchbomben, Eier und Gemüse auf die Polizei. Die Protestler konnten zurückgedrängt werden und die Premiere der Originalfassung von ‘Madama Butterfly’ unter Riccardo Chailly verlief ohne Zwischenfälle.

In der Saison 2015/16 verbuchte das Luzerner Sinfonieorchester 3,1 Prozent mehr Besucher als im Jahr zuvor. Dieser erneute Anstieg ergibt eine Gesamtbesucherzahl von knapp 62.000. The hornist Rob van de Laar has been awarded the Dutch Music Price. The award will be presented during the New Year’s Concert in Maastricht. Rob van de Laar (*1987) studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and just has released his first CD with Challenge Classics, featuring romantic works by Pilss, Schubert, Brahms and Schumann. He is currently the Principal Horn of the Mozarteum Salzburg.
Donald Runnicles

Die Stiftung Oper in Berlin hat heute die Vertragsverlängerung mit dem schottischen Dirigenten Donald Runnicles, 62, als Generalmusikdirektor der Deutschen Oper Berlin bis zum Jahr 2022 unterzeichnet. Runnicles ist seit 2009 Generalmusikdirektor. Im Mai 2012 verlängerte die Stiftung seinen Vertrag vorzeitig um vier Jahre bis Juli 2018.
