The Royal Opera House in Mumbai is scheduled to reopen today, having been restored to its original and luxurious 1916 aspects. The Maharaja of Gondal bought the Opera House in 1952. It’s just unbelievable: A Court in Paris has stated that the demolishment of the boxes at the old Opera in Paris (Palais Garnier) was illegal and condemned the National Opera to pay punitive damages to the to the plaintiffs. At the same time it validated the renovation works since it did not condemn the opera house to recreate the initial state of the building. French justice moves in mysterious ways.

With its musicians being on strike since September 30, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has cancelled all concerts through November 18. The performances of a semi-staged production of Josef Haydn’s The Creation, led by music director Manfred Honeck and scheduled for early December, will be postponed and an alternative program is foreseen, should the strike be ended by then. Currently no negotiations take place.
