When, from 2019, David Geffen Hall (former Avery Fisher Hall) will be closed for renovation, the New York Philharmonic could play at the Auditorium of the Hunter College, on Park Ave. and 68th Street, an East Side building, architecturally rather ugly, which has an auditorium seating 2000. The New York Times reports that the hall will need some renovation work to make it right for the Philharmonic. According to the newspaper, officials at both Hunter and the Philharmonic sound ‘optimistic’ about the project.
In 2012, politicians of the Flemish speaking part and the French speaking part of Belgium signed an agreement in order to get an increased cooperation between the two communities. Alas, the regional actors in the cultural domain were not impressed and partnerships were rarely engaged. Now, the politicians push on that issue, convinced that the agreement should not sink in an eternal sleep. They call for projects, and clever enough, they have an appetizer: money… So, the big question for the music life is: will money be enough to let Flemish musicians play together with Walloons?

Die Wiener Philharmoniker planen ein Haus für Asylanten im Wiener Bezirk Lilienfeld. Dort soll ein ehemaliges Gasthaus umgebaut werden und dann bis zu 16 Menschen (vier Familien) zur Verfügung stehen. Die Kosten von 250.000 Euro (Kaufpreis und Umbau) soll teils aus eigenen Mitteln der Philharmoniker, teils durch Spenden und Crowdfunding aufgebracht werden.
After Vladimir Fedoseyev had to be replaced for Tchaikovsky’s opera Iolanta at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, the conductor agreed to return in that production for three performances in January.
