Shortly after the dismissal of the former manager Boris Mezdrich, Novosibirsk Opera is heading in a new direction. The theatre will become a platform for Sino-Russian cultural projects. This was agreed at a meeting in Moscow by the Minister of Culture of China, Luo Shugan, and the new manager Vladimir Kehman. Mezdrich was fired after the Russian Orthodox Church and some activists reacted negatively to the staging of Wagner’s Tannhäuser directed by Timothy Kulyabin.

After the cancellation of several performances due to the mandatory curfew and current safety concerns after the huge riots in Baltimore, musicians of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will gather in front of Meyerhoff Symphony Hall at noon this Wednesday to give a free concert « in support of our community. » The musicians, who are donating their services, have invited « friends, BSO family and all who love the great City of Baltimore » to the event.

British violinist Daniel Hope (41) has been appointed Principal Conductor of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, starting with the 16/17 season. Hope will be the successor to Sir Roger Norrington. He is supposed to do more than music, as the orchestra’s manager says: « With his musical and communications skills, Hope will strengthen the profile and global reach of the orchestra. In exchange, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra will provide the musical backbone for Hope’s various projects. »

After a cancelled season 2014/15, the Sacramento Philharmonic has announced a seven-concert season for 2015-16. According to a report in the Sacramento Bee, the return of the orchestra to the concert hall will begin with a performance of Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony at the Community Center Theater on June 27. The season will end in May 2016 with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. After its merger with the local Opera company, the two operate under an umbrella organization called the Sacramento Region Performing Arts Alliance.
