Mariss Jansons fühlt sich « zum Narren gehalten”, es gibt Petitionen, massive Kritik….die Politik will es besser wissen als alle und hält an dem Konzertsaal-Umbau in München fest. Er wurde gestern endgültig genehmigt. Ob die Politiker wohl wissen, auf was sie sich eingelassen haben, wie hoch das Risiko eines totalen Debakels ist? Dumme Frage, natürlich wissen sie es nicht. Wie könnten sie auch?

Latvian Minister of Culture Dace Melbarde has presented today the Grand Music Award 2014 for Lifetime Achievement to the conductor Mariss Jansons. This happened at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Jansons is not able to attend the March 4 ceremony in Riga due to his schedule.

The Argentinean composer of Italian origin, Rodolfo Zanni (1901-1927), passed away at the early age of 26 years in mysterious circumstances. His compositions (81 works, symphonies, overtures, ballets, sonatas and two operas) completely disappeared. Now, the Italian music magazine Musica decided to honor his memory and give impulse to musicological investigations, by offering 5.000 Euros to anybody (physical person or institution) who will discover or give fundamental indications to find the manuscript or a printed copy of Rosmunda, an opera in four acts with libretto by Sem Benelli.

Krzysztof Urbański

Der mit 10.000 Euro dotierte Leonard Bernstein Award 2015 geht dieses Jahr an den polnischen Dirigenten Krzysztof Urbanski (32). Wie das Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival mitteilte, soll die Auszeichnung am 17. Juli beim traditionellen Preisträgerkonzert in Lübeck überreicht werden.
Urbanski ist ‘Music Director’ des ‘Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’, Chefdirigent des ‘Trondheim Symfoniorkester’ und ‘Principal Guest Conductor’ des ‘Tokyo Symphony Orchestra’.

Der amerikanische Dirigent Alan Gilbert (46), der mit der Spielzeit 2009/10 als Nachfolger von Lorin Maazel Chefdirigent der New Yorker Philharmoniker wurde und der erste gebürtige New Yorker auf diesem Posten war, verlässt das Orchester 2017. Ein Nachfolger soll so schnell wie möglich gefunden werden.

Today the Dutch Leiden University will award an Honorary Doctorate to William Christie, American harpsichordist, conductor, musicologist and teacher, and one of the foremost pioneers in the renewed appreciation of Baroque music in France, notably from the 17th and 18th century. This year’s edition of the Queen Elisabeth Competition will be devoted to the violin. For the second time in the history of the violin competition, the first round and the semi-finals will take place in the Flagey complex in Brussels, from 4 to 16 May. In the semi-finals Paul Meyer will conduct the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. The final round will take place at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts (Palais des Beaux-Arts) in collaboration with the National Orchestra of Belgium, conducted by Marin Alsop, from 25 to 30 May 2015.
