The Royal Danish Opera has announced that Italian conductor Paolo Carignani, 59, will be the new Principal Guest Conductor, starting in 2021. The contract will last for three years. Carignani is the successor of the late Alexander Vedernikov who died on 29 October from COVID-19.
Paolo Carignani was born in Milan, where he graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in composition, organ and piano. He later studied conducting with Alceo Galliera.
Though he is mostly guest-conducting, Carignani was Generalmusikdirektor at the Opera in Frankfurt am Main from 1999 to 2008.
