Under president Sir Richard Bonynge, the jury of the Paris Opera Awards has awarded six prizes: The first prize for female singers went to Daria Terekhova, soprano (Russia), while the winner for male singers is Pietro Di Bianco, bass-baritone (Italy). The winners of the second prize are Marina Nachkebia, soprano (Georgia) and Xiaohan Zhai, bass-baritone (China). The third prize was awarded to Léonie Renaud, soprano (Switzerland) and Sam Roberts-Smith, baritone (Australia). Daria Terekhova also took the audience award. She was born in 1987 in Serpukhov, Russia. Until now, her career took place mainly in Russia.
Born in 1983, Pietro Di Bianco studied piano and chamber music. He was hired as a piano accompanist at the music conservatories in Salerno and Potenza. He then took up singing at the conservatory in Aquila and graduated in 2009. He had classes with Renata Scotto at Santa Cecilia and with Renato Bruson in Siena. He is currently working with the Bulgarian soprano Raina Kabaiwanska.
