The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra has announced the Finnish violinist and conductor Pekka Kuusisto, 48, as Principal Guest Conductor from 2025-26.
Kuusisto will share the title with soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan, who has been in the role since 2019 and will continue until 2028. Santtu-Matias Rouvali is the orchestra’s chief conductor until June 2025.
« As Artistic Director of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Partner of the Helsinki Philharmonic and Artistic Best Friend of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Bremen, Kuusisto has developed an unrivaled ability to communicate with musicians and audiences. We are very pleased about this, » says CEO Anna-Karin Larsson.
