Swiss conductor Philippe Bach (*1974) has been appointed Artistic Director of the Orchestre de chambre de Fribourg. As of September, he will replace Laurent Gendre, the orchestra’s founding conductor, who held the baton for fifteen years.
Born in Saanen (Bern), Philippe Bach studied horn at the Bern University of Music and at the Geneva Conservatory, before embarking on conducting studies at the Zurich University of Music with Johannes Schlaefli, then at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Mark Elder.
From 2008 to 2010, he worked at the opera house in Lübeck, and from 2010 to 2022 at the opera house in Meiningen, Germany. Since 2012, he has been artistic director of the Bern Chamber Orchestra and, since 2016, of the Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic.
