American pianist Dalton Baldwin passed away on Thursday, December 12 at the age of 87. He was known as an accompanist of singers like Gérard Souzay, José Van Dam, Elly Ameling, Jessye Norman and Nathalie Stutzmann.
Born in Summit, New Jersey, Dalton Baldwin studied at the Julliard School before flying to Europe and following Nadia Boulanger’s teaching in Paris. This was followed by a long and distinguished career devoted largely to melodies and lieder, a repertoire in which he excelled, as shown by an important discography.
A teacher, Dalton Baldwin has also given numerous master classes throughout the world.
