Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has awarded pianist Krystian Zimerman with the Commander’s Cross – with star – of the Order of Poland Reborn. Komorowski described Zimerman as a « good ambassador of the beauty of Polish culture ». The pianist appeared to be deeply moved and said: “I should come here with flowers to thank you and the nation which has done so much for me,” adding that it came on the 50th anniversary of his first piano lesson with Professor Andrzej Jasinski, who was present at the ceremony.
‘Polonia Restituta ist Polan’ds second highest order. It has five categories, the one for Zimerman being the second in importance.
