Pianist Maria Josephina Mignone died last week at the age of 101. She had been hospitalized in São Paulo since June 29, when she suffered a fall at home. An important name in Brazilian piano, she developed a career as a soloist and chamber musician, as well as being a teacher. In recent years, she has dedicated herself to a fundamental process of recovering historical recordings of Francisco Mignone’s work.

She met composer and pianist Francisco Mignone, in the 1960s, with whom she would marry and form a duo that remained active until 1986, the year of the composer’s death.
