Pizzicato’s Remy Franck is attending the Krzysztof Penderecki Festival (KPF) in Warsaw, 17–23 November. Our readers will be informed all the week long about this major musical event organized for the composer’s 80th birthday. With the participation of such stars as Anne Sophie Mutter, Julian Rachlin, Daniel Müller-Schott, Thomas Bauer, Yuri Bashmet, Claudio Bohórquez and conductors Valery Gergiev, Charles Dutoit, Lorin Maazel, Leonard Slatkin, Marek Janowski, Jesús López-Cobos, Jiří Bělohlávek and Lawrence Foster, the festival will be quite a unique celebration, certainly one of the biggest ever organized for a living composer.
KPF was inaugurated yesterday evening with a chamber music concert at the Royal Castle performed by Kwartet Dafô, cellist Danjulo Ishizaka, violinist Julian Rachlin and viola player Yuri Bashmet. Tonight, Sinfonia Varsovia will be conducted successively by Andres Mustonen, Lawrence Foster and Lorin Maazel.
