All of Placido Domingo’s performances at the Royal Opera House in London have been cancelled by mutual agreement, the organisation announced. This a subsequent evolution since the allegations of sexual misconduct appeared last year.
The statement issued on March 6 says: “The Royal Opera House and maestro Plácido Domingo have mutually decided that he will withdraw from the Royal Opera House’s upcoming performances of Don Carlo in July 2020. We would like to confirm that we have received no claims of misconduct against maestro Domingo during his time at the Royal Opera House and are sympathetic of his reasons for stepping down.”
The ROH added that it was “hugely grateful” for Domingo’s commitment to performing there over many years, describing him as “an outstanding singer and artist”.
