Giovanni Sgambati, römischer Komponist, Pianist und Dirigent (1841-1914) war ein Schüler und Gefolgsmann von Franz Liszt. Er stand in Briefverkehr mit Tchaikovsky und Brahms, und Alfredo Casella schrieb belobigend über ihn. Wagner sah in ihm « ein wahres, großes und originäres Talent ». Sgambati weigerte sich jedoch, Opern zu schreiben und widmete sich vor allem der Kammer- und Klaviermusik sowie der Symphonik.
Dieses Album mit einem Schwerpunkt auf den Nocturnes und atmosphärisch verwandten Stücken sind durchaus angenehm zu hören, weil sich Cecilia Facchini bemüht, den sensiblen poetischen Kern der jeweiligen Kompositionen herauszuarbeiten.
Sie spielt ebenso phantasievoll wie einfühlsam, denn sie hat sich völlig in die Musik eingelebt hat und kann sie mit Klangsinn und Nuancenreichtum zu Gehör bringen.
Giovanni Sgambati, Roman composer, pianist and conductor (1841-1914), was a student and follower of Franz Liszt. He corresponded with Tchaikovsky and Brahms, and Alfredo Casella wrote in praise of him. Wagner saw in him « a true, great and original talent ». Sgambati refused to write operas, however, and devoted himself primarily to chamber music, piano music, and symphonic music.
This album, which focuses on the Nocturnes and related atmospheric pieces, is a pleasure to listen to, as Cecilia Facchini strives to bring out the sensitive poetic core of each composition.
Her playing is as imaginative as it is sensitive, because she has completely immersed herself in the music and is able to bring it to life with a sense of sound and a wealth of nuances.
