The Polish radio today announced the death of conductor Kasimierz Kord. He was 90 years old. Born in Krakow, Kord first studied piano in Katowice as well as in Russia before graduating in conducting from the Krakow Music Academy.
He conducted Polish orchestras as well as at Polish opera houses, internationally at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, in London, Amsterdam, Munich and Copenhagen, and with leading orchestras in Europe, the United States and Japan.
He was music director of the SWR Symphonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg (1980–1986).
