Its look like the politicians of French region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) have acknowledged that a festival is an economic value: They have decided to set up a public company in order to save the lyric festival Chorégies d’Orange, which is in a big financial turmoil, having accumulated a deficit of 1,5 million euros.
The association who run the festival has suspended payments. Until now, this oldest French opera festival was self-financed by 80% and attracted annually 55.000 visitors in the Roman Theatre of Orange with its 8.300 seats.
