Das aus rund 20 Streichern bestehende Orchestre national Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes spielt das Zweite Streichquintett von Johannes Brahms. Es ist zweifellos ein sehr komplexes Alterswerk, das Dirigent Thomas Zehetmair zu sehr auf Streicherglanz anlegt, was durch die etwas diffuse Akustik noch verstärkt wird. Mir fehlt es hier an Tiefe, an Kontrasten und an einer Rhetorik, die dieses Werk wirklich aussagekräftig werden ließe, so etwa wie es der Sinfonietta Amsterdam gelungen ist, deren Aufnahme ich empfehlen kann.
The Orchestre national Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, consisting of about 20 string players, performs the Second String Quintet by Johannes Brahms. It’s undoubtedly a very complex late work, and conductor Thomas Zehetmair has it played with too much brilliance, which is intensified by the somewhat diffuse acoustics. For me, there is a lack of depth here, of contrasts, and of a rhetoric that would make this work truly meaningful, something like the Sinfonietta Amsterdam succeeded in doing, whose recording I can recommend.
