Russian Radio Orpheus – a member of the ICMA Jury – has been chosen as official media partner for the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition which will be held in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, Russia, from June 15 to July 3, 2015. This year the competition is dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Piotr I. Tchaikovsky.
Radio Orpheus is realizing its own media project, including a cycle of special programs about the competition’s history, broadcasts with concerts of former winners and complete news about the event. The main part of this project comprises live broadcasts of the piano competition from the first to the last note, live broadcasts of opening and final Gala concerts and Award Ceremony as well as digests of the competitions for violinists, cellists and singers. The total duration of the project is about 160 hours on air.
Since 1958 the P.I. Tchaikovsky Competition has gained a strong reputation in the field of international musical contests. It launched the careers of musicians like Van Cliburn, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Gidon Kremer, Andras Schiff, Peter Donohoe, etc.
The 15th International P. I. Tchaikovsky Competition (organized every four years) will be held in Moscow (pianists and violinists), and Saint-Petersburg (cellists and singers). The inauguration ceremony and piano auditions traditionally will take place in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. In Saint-Petersburg the venues will be the Grand and the Small Halls of the Saint-Petersburg’s Philharmonic as well as in the recently constructed Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre.
