35-year-old Rebecca Tong from Indonesia was awarded First Prize at the 1st International Competition of Women Conductors La maestro in Paris. A native Indonesian of Chinese descent, Tong is the Resident Conductor of the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra. Currently, she is the Junior Fellow in Conducting with the Royal Northern College of Music working as the assistant to the RNCM Opera department and assisting two major orchestras in United Kingdom: The BBC Philharmonic and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. She was also the 2019 recipient of the Taki Award for the Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship and had the opportunity to work closely with Marin Alsop, a jury member of the La Maestra competition.
Second Prize was awarded to Stéphanie Childress (21, United Kingdom / France), Third Prize to Lina Granados-Gonzales (34, Colombia) who also won the ECHO Prize (European Concert Hall Organisation). The French concert halls and orchestras committee’s and Arte’s special prizes were also won by Rebecca Tong.
