Der Kanadier Jan Liesiecki schickt den Chopin-Präludien eine Reihe von Kompositionen anderer Komponisten voraus, Bach, Rachmaninov, Gorecki und Messiaen, wobei mir die feinfühlig und poetisch gespielten Messiaen Stücke sehr gut gefallen, das wie auf einer Krücke stelzende BWV 846 aber auch gar nicht.
Obwohl es sehr schöne Momente in den Chopin-Préludes gibt, kann ich mich dafür nicht erwärmen, habe ich doch den Eindruck, dass sich der Pianist in seinem Willen, eine persönliche Interpretation abzuliefern, verrannt hat. Sein Zyklus wird letztlich recherchiert, wenn nicht manieriert. Sein Spiel bewegt sich zwischen Dramatik und schönstem Belcanto, aber es bleibt auch – so höre ich es – immer ein bisschen artifiziell in seiner Emotionalität. Das ist mehr Ego-Lisiecki als Chopin.
The Canadian Jan Liesiecki precedes the Chopin Preludes with a series of compositions by other composers, Bach, Rachmaninov, Gorecki and Messiaen, whereby I like the sensitively and poetically played Messiaen pieces very much, but not at all the BWV 846, which seems to be stumbling on a crutch.
Although there are some very beautiful moments in the Chopin Preludes, I can’t warm to them, as I have the impression that the pianist has lost his way in his desire to deliver a personal interpretation. His cycle is ultimately researched, if not mannered. His playing moves between the dramatic and the most beautiful bel canto, but it always remains – as I hear it – a little artificial in its emotionality. This is more ego-Lisiecki than Chopin.
